Complex Trauma

Complex trauma refers to the profound and often pervasive impact of prolonged, repeated, and interpersonal trauma, usually experienced during childhood or adolescence. Unlike a single traumatic event, complex trauma arises from ongoing or multiple traumatic experiences, such as chronic abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exposure to violence, often within relationships where the victim is dependent on the perpetrator.

The cumulative nature of these experiences can deeply affect an individual’s development, sense of self, relationships, and ability to regulate emotions. It can lead to a wide range of challenges, including difficulty with emotional regulation, distorted self-perception, relationship difficulties, dissociation, and chronic feelings of emptiness or hopelessness.

Our therapeutic approach is designed to provide comprehensive and compassionate care, tailored to the intricate nature of traumatic experiences. We integrate cutting-edge therapeutic modalities to help you navigate your healing journey effectively.

This approach helps individuals develop psychological flexibility, allowing them to accept difficult thoughts and feelings related to trauma while committing to actions aligned with their values. It focuses on reducing the impact of past trauma on present-day functioning and building a meaningful life.

Our therapy integrates powerful somatic techniques, drawing from both Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Polyvagal Theory when appropriate. These somatic therapy techniques recognize that trauma is stored not just in the mind but also in the body. By gently guiding you to notice and process bodily sensations, these somatic healing techniques help to regulate the nervous system, release stored tension, and promote a sense of safety and calm from within.
